Desert Hot Springs Spa Hotel

Copyright Spa Hotel used with permission.Location:

Retro / fifties time warp.

Desert Hot Springs is a slice. Twenty-two spa motels including the Desert Hot Springs Spa Hotel line Palm Drive. This area could only be labeled as kitsch. The majority of the mostly fifties style motels definitely lack charm. You can almost hear the paint peeled, flat roofed motels with faded turquoise doors sigh they are so very tired. In the distance the mountains look as if they were fingerprinted by an artistic gang of tactile giants.

The outdoor pools at the Desert Hot Springs Spa Hotel is definitely worth the retro ride. Eight pools of varying temperatures dot the courtyard. There is no added chlorine just clear mineral waters rising from aquifers that are 300 feet deep at a temperature of 140 Fahrenheit. The waters is tempered and cooled to varying temperatures and pumped into the pools.

The Small Cost:

Rates range (depending on day and time) from a mere $3 to $7 for the use of all the pools, dry sauna, and locker rooms. There is a poolside food and bar. This place isn’t fashionable or fancy but the outdoor mineral baths can’t be beat and neither can the price.

Telephone (760) 329-6495 for more information.

Two Bunch Palms

Location: Hidden.

There is one ultra exclusive spa in the Desert Hot Springs area. It is so exclusive and so private they don’t even have a sign. It is so exclusive we were not allowed in. But we managed to get a brochure from this hideaway spa that was once a retreat for Al Capone and his cronies. We were slipped this info as we hung around the gates -- Suzanne Somers was there working out. But we didn’t and don’t believe it -- why not? Everyone knows Somers has a Thigh Masters.

Telephone 1-800-472-4334 for information on Two Bunch Palms.
